TAURON Polska Energia S.A., operating through its various subsidiaries, is a major player in Poland's energy sector, handling the entire lifecycle of electricity and heat – from production and transmission to distribution and sales. Its operations are divided into several key segments: Mining: This division focuses on the extraction, cleaning, and commercialization of hard coal. Generation: Responsible for producing electricity from conventional sources, including co-generation processes and biomass combustion. It also covers the generation, distribution, and sale of heat, alongside maintenance and overhaul services for power generation equipment. Renewable Energy Sources (RES): This segment generates electricity exclusively from sustainable resources, encompassing hydroelectric power plants, wind farms, and solar installations. Distribution: This unit manages the delivery of electricity to end-users via its extensive grid infrastructure. It also provides technical assistance for electricity metering systems and the collection of consumption data. Supply: Engaged in the provision of electricity and natural gas to customers. This segment also conducts wholesale trading of energy commodities, including electricity, natural gas, and related derivatives. Furthermore, it manages and trades CO2 emission allowances, property rights associated with certificates of origin for renewable and co-generated electricity, and energy efficiency certificates, as well as fuels. Selling lighting services is also part of its remit. Other Operations: This diverse segment provides various consumer services, offers internal support functions such as accounting, IT, and HR, and undertakes limestone mining for the power generation, steel, construction, and road-building sectors. It is also involved in sourcing, transporting, and processing biomass for large-scale power production, and repurposes by-products from hard coal combustion and extraction processes. Beyond these core activities, the company also offers vehicle maintenance, real estate management, property security, and financial services. Originally established in 2006, the company was first known as Energetyka Poludnie S.A. before adopting its current name, TAURON Polska Energia S.A., in November 2007.
