Profile
TMX Group Limited functions as a key infrastructure provider for capital markets, primarily within Canada but also internationally, by managing exchanges, various market platforms, and clearing services. The company's operations are strategically divided into four core units: Global Solutions, Insights & Analytics; Capital Formation; Derivatives Trading and Clearing; and Equities and Fixed Income Trading & Clearing. The Global Solutions, Insights & Analytics segment furnishes clients with comprehensive equity and index data, alongside integrated datasets designed for proprietary and third-party analytical tools, thereby aiding their trading and investment choices. This division also offers specialized solutions to the European and broader global wholesale energy markets, facilitating crucial processes like price discovery, trade execution, transparent reporting, and straight-through processing. Through its Capital Formation segment, TMX Group oversees the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), a prominent national exchange for established senior equities, and the TSX Venture Exchange, which serves the public venture equity market. This segment also includes TSX Trust, providing essential services such as corporate trust, registrar functions, transfer agency operations, and foreign exchange. The Derivatives Trading and Clearing division manages the Montreal Exchange, Canada's national marketplace for derivatives, and the Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation (CDCC), which acts as a clearinghouse for options and futures contracts. Its scope further extends to various over-the-counter products and fixed income repurchase agreements. Finally, the Equities and Fixed Income Trading & Clearing segment is responsible for the trading activities across the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, and TSX Alpha Exchange. This unit also handles the clearing and settlement of equity and fixed income transactions, provides custody for securities, and offers inter-dealer brokerage services for fixed income instruments. Established in 2011, the company was initially known as Maple Group Acquisition Corporation before officially rebranding as TMX Group Limited in August 2012. Its corporate headquarters are located in Toronto, Canada.
