Markel's Reinsurance division focuses on transactional, healthcare, and environmental impairment liability reinsurance. It also specializes in treaty reinsurance products, which encompass structured and whole turnover credit, political risk, mortgage and contract, and commercial surety reinsurance programs. The Markel Ventures segment diversifies the company's portfolio with a varied collection of non-insurance businesses. This includes manufacturing equipment for baking systems and food processing, portable dredges, over-the-road car haulers, and various transportation equipment. It also produces laminated oak and composite wood flooring, tube and tank trailers, along with offering ornamental plants, residential homes, handbags, and architectural products. Beyond manufacturing, Markel Ventures delivers a range of services to both businesses and consumers. These services include distributing exterior building products, crane rental, fire protection and life safety solutions, management and technology consulting, and retail intelligence services. Finally, the company's Other segment encompasses healthcare, leasing, and various investment services. It also functions as an insurance and investment fund manager, offering a suite of specialized investment products such as insurance-linked securities, catastrophe bonds, insurance swaps, and weather derivatives, in addition to providing program services. Furthermore, this segment manages funds collaboratively with third parties. Established in 1930, Markel Corporation maintains its headquarters in Glen Allen, Virginia.
