Profile

Mallinckrodt plc is a global pharmaceutical company focused on the development, production, commercialization, and distribution of specialized medicinal products and treatments. Its operations are divided into two primary divisions: Specialty Brands and Specialty Generics. Within its Specialty Brands segment, the firm offers a portfolio of branded pharmaceuticals addressing autoimmune and rare conditions across multiple therapeutic areas, including neurological, rheumatological, nephrological, ophthalmological, and pulmonological disorders. This segment also encompasses immunotherapy solutions, critical care treatments for neonates, pain management medications (analgesics), and gastrointestinal therapies. Notable products include Acthar Gel, an injectable medication used for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and infantile spasms; INOmax, a vasodilator designed to improve oxygenation and lessen reliance on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation; Ofirmev, an injectable form of acetaminophen; the Therakos photopheresis system, an immunotherapy platform; and Amitiza, prescribed for constipation. Mallinckrodt is also actively advancing several candidates in its development pipeline. These include Terlipressin, intended for hepatorenal syndrome; StrataGraft, currently undergoing Phase II and Phase III clinical trials for burn treatment; MNK-6105 and MNK-6106, ammonia scavengers aimed at managing hepatic encephalopathy, a neurological condition linked to high ammonia levels; and SLN500, an investigational therapy based on ribonucleic acid technology. Furthermore, the company provides specialty generic medications and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) through its other segment. Its branded portfolio is marketed to a diverse range of healthcare stakeholders, such as medical practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy purchasing agents, hospital procurement divisions, outpatient surgical centers, and specialized pharmacies. Mallinckrodt plc maintains a collaborative partnership with Silence Therapeutics plc, focusing on the research, development, and eventual commercialization of drug targets utilizing ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi) technology. Established in 1867, the company's headquarters are located in Dublin, Ireland. It is important to note that on October 12, 2020, Mallinckrodt plc and its associated entities initiated a voluntary Chapter 11 reorganization filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
