CarMax, Inc., along with its affiliated entities, functions as a prominent retailer of pre-owned automobiles throughout the United States. The company's operations are divided into two main segments: CarMax Sales Operations and CarMax Auto Finance. Customers can browse a vast selection of used vehicles, encompassing domestic, imported, luxury, hybrid, and electric models. At the point of purchase, CarMax also offers extended protection plans. Older vehicles, typically around ten years old with over 100,000 miles, are remarketed through wholesale auctions. Beyond sales, the company provides reconditioning and repair services for its vehicles. It further assists retail clients by offering diverse financing options suitable for a wide array of credit profiles, either directly through its CarMax Auto Finance division or via partnerships with various external financial institutions. As of February 28, 2022, CarMax managed a network of approximately 230 used car dealerships. The company was founded in 1993 and has its corporate headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.
