American Water Works Company, Inc. (AWC) stands as a leading utility in the United States, providing crucial water and wastewater services via its numerous subsidiaries. It caters to approximately 3.4 million active customers across about 1,700 communities within 14 states. Its broad customer base includes residential consumers, a variety of commercial businesses (such as food and beverage suppliers, property developers, and energy providers), fire service departments, large industrial operations (including manufacturing and mining), public authorities (like government facilities, schools, and universities), and other local utility systems. Furthermore, AWC extends its services to several military installations and partners with municipalities under contract to manage and operate their water and wastewater facilities, in addition to offering related specialized services. The company commands a vast infrastructure network, comprising roughly 80 surface water treatment plants, 480 groundwater treatment plants, and 160 wastewater treatment plants. This extensive system also features approximately 52,500 miles of transmission, distribution, and collection pipes; 1,100 groundwater wells; 1,700 pumping stations; 1,300 treated water storage facilities; and 76 dams. Altogether, American Water Works serves an estimated 14 million people across 24 states with drinking water, wastewater management, and other essential services. Founded in 1886, the company is headquartered in Camden, New Jersey.
