Nippon Sheet Glass Company, Limited, a global enterprise headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, specializes in the production and distribution of an extensive range of glass and glazing products. Its operations are organized into several core divisions: Architectural, Automotive, Technical Glass, and other related segments. The Architectural division delivers a comprehensive suite of glass solutions, encompassing products designed for solar control, thermal insulation, fire protection, noise reduction, enhanced safety and security, self-cleaning capabilities, decorative purposes, solar energy applications, and antimicrobial properties. This segment also provides complete glass systems and both coated and uncoated glass offerings, often under its well-known Pilkington brand. In the Automotive sector, the company supplies specialized vehicle glass to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), offers aftermarket replacement glass, and engineers bespoke glass solutions for a diverse array of specialized vehicles, including commercial transport, off-road machinery, buses, coaches, marine vessels, and railway applications. The Technical Glass division focuses on high-performance functional products, marketed under names such as MICROGLAS, Flake, Metashine, GLASFLAKE, and SILKYFLAKE. It is also responsible for manufacturing critical battery components like absorbent glass mat (AGM) separators for valve-regulated lead-acid batteries, polyethylene (PE) separators that enhance battery assembly line efficiency, and sleeve tubes used as positive plate separators in clad-type lead-acid batteries. Additionally, this division produces SELFOC lens arrays and micro lenses, SELGUIDE linear LED light sources for image scanning, various sheet glasses tailored for electronic office equipment, and ultra-fine flat glass products. Founded in 1918, the company was initially known as America Japan Sheet Glass Co., Ltd., before adopting its current name, Nippon Sheet Glass Company, Limited, in 1931.
