Profile

Banpu Public Company Limited, an international energy company founded in 1983 and headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, specializes in coal mining and power generation. Its substantial global coal mining operations include the management of five mines in Kalimantan, Indonesia—specifically Indominco, Jorong, Kitadin-Embalut, Trubaindo, and Bharinto—which yield a variety of bituminous and sub-bituminous thermal coals. Additionally, the company operates the Gaohe coal mine in China's Shanxi Province and the Hebi mine in Henan Province, owns multiple coal mines in New South Wales, Australia, and is involved in coal projects across Mongolia. In the power sector, Banpu holds a 50% stake in a 1,434 MW coal-fired power plant located in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, Thailand. In the United States, it possesses full ownership of the 768 MW Temple 1 gas-fired power plant in Texas. Furthermore, its energy portfolio encompasses the operation and management of three coal-fired combined heat and power plants in China, with a combined capacity of 539 megawatts, as well as thermal power plants in Lao PDR. Diversifying into sustainable energy, Banpu is active in renewable projects such as solar farms in Japan and a wind farm in Vietnam. The company also offers advanced energy solutions, including solar rooftop installations for industrial and large commercial clients, energy storage systems, electric vehicle and fleet management services, and consultation for customized energy management systems, all contributing to a broader clean energy ecosystem. Beyond these core functions, Banpu's extensive business activities cover power and steam production, procurement, and trading; provident fund administration; general solar power generation; logistics; sales and marketing; natural gas operations; strategic investments in power and renewable energy; research and development; coal trading; business consultancy; and fuel trading services. The company was previously known as Ban Pu Coal Company Limited before adopting its current name, Banpu Public Company Limited, in July 1993.
