Profile

Navidea Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical firm dedicated to creating and marketing highly specific diagnostic tools that leverage the immune system, as well as therapeutic agents also based on immune principles. Its operations are divided into two primary divisions: Diagnostic Substances and Therapeutic Development Programs. Central to its efforts is the Manocept platform, designed to selectively bind to the CD206 mannose receptor found on activated macrophages. This innovative platform enables various diagnostic techniques, such as single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET), gamma-scanning, and intra-operative or optical-fluorescence detection. Additionally, it facilitates the targeted delivery of therapeutic agents to macrophages, addressing a spectrum of immune- and inflammation-related conditions. The company's pipeline includes several key candidates for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). NAV3-31 has successfully concluded Phase IIb clinical trials, where its imaging repeatability, reproducibility, and stability were assessed. These trials also investigated the potential of Tc99m tilmanocept imaging to guide anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha therapy for individuals suffering from moderate to severe RA. Furthermore, NAV3-35 is currently undergoing a Phase IIb clinical trial for RA imaging, while NAV3-33 is advancing through Phase III clinical trials for RA. Another compound, NAV3-32, is in Phase 2b trials, focusing on RA-affected joints. Beyond RA, Navidea is exploring the utility of Tc99m tilmanocept for various other applications, including cardiovascular conditions, Kaposi's sarcoma, tuberculosis, and additional immunotherapeutic uses. Originally established as Neoprobe Corporation, the company adopted its current name, Navidea Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., in January 2012. Founded in 1983, its corporate headquarters are located in Dublin, Ohio.
