The company's operations are categorized into three core divisions: Ethanol Production, Agribusiness and Energy Services, and Partnership. The Ethanol Production segment is responsible for generating and selling ethanol, encompassing industrial-grade alcohol, alongside valuable co-products such as distiller grains, high-protein feed supplements, and corn oil. Through its Agribusiness and Energy Services segment, Green Plains manages the procurement, handling, and storage of grain. This division also acts as a commodity marketer, engaging in the buying, promoting, selling, and distributing of ethanol, distiller grains, ultra-high protein products, corn oil, various types of grain, natural gas, and other commodities across diverse markets. Additionally, it extends grain drying and storage solutions to agricultural producers. The Partnership segment is dedicated to delivering services for fuel storage and transportation. As of December 31, 2021, Green Plains Inc.'s infrastructure included 29 facilities for ethanol storage, 4 fuel terminal sites, and a substantial fleet comprising approximately 2,300 leased railcars. The company, originally known as Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc., officially changed its name to Green Plains Inc. in May 2014.
