Profile

Umicore S.A. is a global enterprise specializing in materials science and resource recovery solutions. The company's operations are divided into three core divisions: Catalysis, Energy & Surface Technologies, and Recycling. The Catalysis division is responsible for manufacturing catalytic converters for a wide array of automotive applications, including gasoline, light diesel, and heavy-duty diesel vehicles. This segment also delivers stationary catalytic systems aimed at reducing industrial emissions and furnishes precious metal-based compounds and catalysts crucial for the pharmaceutical, fine chemical, and fuel cell industries. Within its Energy & Surface Technologies sector, Umicore develops and supplies various products such as cobalt and other specialized materials, components vital for rechargeable batteries, and electro-optic substances. Moreover, this division offers sophisticated metal deposition services, encompassing techniques like electroplating and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating. The Recycling unit primarily processes waste streams containing valuable precious and specialized metals, which are recovered from industrial byproducts and discarded end-of-life materials. Additionally, this segment produces precious metal-based components that find application in glass manufacturing, electrical systems, and electronic devices. Formerly known as Union Minière du Haut Katanga, the company officially rebranded as Umicore SA in 2001. Founded in 1805, Umicore SA's main headquarters are located in Brussels, Belgium.
