Profile

T2 Biosystems, Inc. is an in vitro diagnostics company that develops and commercializes innovative diagnostic solutions for global markets. Its proprietary technology platform enables the rapid detection of pathogens, biomarkers, and other critical abnormalities directly from a wide array of unpurified patient specimens, including whole blood, plasma, serum, saliva, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine. The company's commercial offerings include the T2Dx Instrument, a compact bench-top system designed to run various diagnostic assays. Its current suite of diagnostic tests features T2Candida, a direct-from-blood test that rapidly identifies bloodstream infections leading to sepsis and candidemia; T2Bacteria, another direct-from-blood assay for detecting bacterial pathogens commonly associated with sepsis; T2Resistance, which targets and identifies genes conferring carbapenem resistance; and the T2SARS-CoV-2 panel, developed to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In addition to its existing products, T2 Biosystems is actively advancing several diagnostic candidates. These include T2Biothreat, aimed at identifying biothreat pathogens; a comprehensive sepsis panel designed to detect bloodstream infections caused by both bacterial and Candida species, along with antibiotic resistance markers; T2Cauris, which offers direct detection of the emerging superbug Candida auris in patient skin, blood, and hospital environmental samples; and T2Lyme, a direct-from-blood test panel specifically engineered for the T2Dx Instrument to identify the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease. T2 Biosystems has also established strategic partnerships, such as its collaboration with Canon U.S. Life Sciences, Inc., to jointly develop a diagnostic test panel for Lyme disease. The company was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts.
