Profile

SMA Solar Technology AG, along with its associated companies, is dedicated to the research, manufacturing, and distribution of photovoltaic (PV) and battery inverters, electrical components like transformers and chokes, surveillance systems for solar installations, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The company conducts its business both within Germany and across international markets. Its operations are segmented into three main divisions: Home Solutions, Business Solutions, and Large Scale and Project Solutions. SMA's extensive product portfolio includes string and central solar inverters compatible with various module types. It also offers battery inverters specifically engineered for high-voltage batteries, off-grid and on-grid applications, and a broad spectrum of energy storage solutions, from commercial and industrial to large-scale systems, along with related accessories. Additionally, the company supplies medium-voltage technology products and DC-DC converters. Beyond its hardware offerings, SMA provides e-mobility charging solutions, sophisticated monitoring and control systems for photovoltaic setups, and essential energy data services. Furthermore, it develops digital platforms aimed at simplifying the design, operation, and maintenance of both PV and broader energy systems. Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Niestetal, Germany, SMA Solar Technology AG was initially known as SMA Technologie AG before officially changing its name in June 2008.
